Rough times - Bumpy Ride

I'll tell you - it's amazing how things can change in an instant. Gigs and I were fingerprinted a while back by DHS - Customs & Immigration Bureau to be approved for international adoption. I was fairly certain that we were good to go. Well, we received a letter over the weekend requesting court disposition papers and a letter of explanation for charges Gigs experienced 30 years ago when he was 19. He and some buddies at college decided to throw a party - the drinking age was 21 in PA then. They got busted for under-age drinking and for contributing to the delinquency of minors because there were some people there under 18. On top of that, they tried to make some kind of case that they were running a speak easy (What year was this, 1929? no 1978.) Most of this was thrown out and they each paid a fine. Anyway, this could be sufficient to completely derail our K-country plan. They are very strict and you can have zero record including any charges that were dismissed. The agency advised that we needed to send Gigs' fingerprints off with a request letter to the FBI to see if it will show up there. If it does, we're pretty much done and must move on to another program. We also have to get the documents for CIS and handle thing strategically in our home study (long and short version). Also, we may be limited in the region of the country that we'll be able to adopt; don't understand that one yet.

Say a prayer that things are resolved favorably - this seems silly, but it really is very serious - the next 2-3 weeks is going to be a long period without knowing.
