Big Brother

There are so many life-changing things about to happen and so many lives involved. I thought I would share a little about Big Brother's (BB) response to the news that he has two new sisters. Throughout this process, BB has been involved in our process and decisions. He communicated early on to our Home Study Social Worker that his preference would be for a boy. You must understand he's got a lot of estrogen producers surrounding him. He has his mom, me, his twin 11-year old sisters, and until recently his live-in buddy, Grandma.

We shared with him that we had received the referral for two sisters, and despite a momentary disappointment about the boy thing, he said "I thought June would be a lucky month for you guys."

Since we passed court on Monday, he decided to build a doll house for the girls. Part of the way through the project, he decided that it required a bit too much finish work (not his strong suit). He's decided now that he's much better at rough-in type work and has identified a pattern used by Norm (of This Old House notariety) for a playhouse for the yard, so he's gearing up for that project - you know, framing, roofing, etc. - these he can handle....

He was very excited about accompanying me to select paint for the girls' room and later picked up some number flash cards he thought the girls would enjoy at Sam's Club. He asked this morning if we could wrap the box and make it clear that this is a gift from Big Brother.

This morning I said something about the Ministry of Women's Affairs in E Country closing down for two weeks and he thought that he might have identified the issue with us getting girls instead of boys....He said there should be a Ministry of Men's Affairs as well. I reassured him that they weren't limiting the adoptions to girls even though they're called the Ministry of Women's Affairs.

He's been a bit nervous about it all, and Dad has spent some good time reassuring him along the way, but all along he's been very sweet. He's glad that it does not appear that their homecoming will interfere with his annual Lumberjack Appreciation Barbeque on September 19. He did note that there are no ET people on the circuit and suggested he might train up the first ET lumberJILLS!
