The Norfolk office of the US Customs & Immigration Service just called me personally to tell me that they had received the "rap sheet" for my husband - the agent's words, not mine. Remember many, many months ago, this "rap sheet" prevented us from being able to adopt from Kazakhstan. It sounds ominous, does it not? To USCIS, in our original process, Gigs had to provide court disposition information regarding the charges and a letter of explanation, etc. before we were approved by the US government to proceed with an inter-country adoption.
Well, it's time to come clean on this blog, and share with you what horrible criminal act has caused all of this grief......I know you'll never look at Gigs the same way again. More than 30 years ago, he was arrested for underage drinking at the age of 19 while attending university in Pittsburgh. They also charged him and a friend with "running a speakeasy" (what year was this, 1932?) at the same time; this charge however did not stick. Well, now you know....the secret is out....a burden has been lifted...
The nice lady said that she would be sending our APPROVAL letter with new fingerprint expiration dates today! She said that she would do what she could on her end to facilitate the communication of same to E Country!
We are cleared for travel and we depart a week from this Saturday on August 29 and plan to be back Stateside on September 6 with the girls!
So much to do, so little time, so much excitement, so much anxiousness!
